The time has come!

After more than 15 years, the previous EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC is being replaced by the new EU Machinery Regulation.

For our technical documentation, the expected changes are now becoming reality: the absolutely legally compliant digital operating manuals.

And that already from now on - even under the still valid Machinery Directive of 2006.

As manufacturers of machines and similar products, we can now get started digitally.
 
 
POLITICAL LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

The so-called Guide to the Application of the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC contains explanations of the official requirements. This 3rd update (edition 2.3) from April 2024 contains clarifications on instructions/manuals if they are available in digital form. 

To summarise: With the new Machinery Directive 2023/1230, digitalisation in mechanical engineering is also being driven forward within technical documentation and enables manufacturers to make operating manuals available digitally immediately

In addition to the obvious advantages, such as resource and cost savings, digital instructions have further benefits.

In the risk assessment for CE labelling, safety can be massively increased by a digital supplement. This is especially true if components that are easier to consume are provided digitally, such as clickable instructions, video tutorials, etc.


The digital future is NOW.

The new regulation will not come into force until 20 January 2027 (Article 54 of the regulation).

However, the digital operating manuals can be implemented immediately.

This is possible because the guidelines for the old Machinery Directive were updated accordingly in April 2024.

LEGAL REQUIREMENTS

We at FREUND ensure compliance with the legal requirements for the conversion of the digital operating manuals as follows:

- free access to a free print and/or download version (PDF document)
- each operating manual is offered in the languages DE, EN
- Access must be guaranteed for at least 10 years - from introduction!
- our main delivery form is now digital!
- with every machine delivery from FREUND, the current operating manual is delivered digitally via a QR code
- if a paper version is still required and is to be supplied, this can be requested free of charge up to 30 days after delivery of our new machine
- of our new machine can be requested free of charge
- If a paper version of the operating manuals is required after the 30-day period, a flat-rate fee will be charged
